A householder from the city of Rājagṛha and follower of the Jain master Jñātiputra. Chief protagonist of the Śrīgupta Sūtra, he sets multiple traps to kill the Buddha on the instruction of his teacher, which the Buddha foresees and skillfully avoids. Feeling remorse for his actions, he takes refuge in the Buddha.
